FINAL PHASE of A602 Improvement Works – Section B

Hertfordshire County Council is progressing with the final phase of the A602 Improvement Scheme, Section B between Watton-at-Stone and Tonwell with our contractor Interserve Construction Limited. Work is due to begin in mid-June with the site set-up, archaeological surveys and area fencing.

The Section B works involves enlarging the roundabout at the junction of the A119 with Ware Road to provide additional capacity for traffic, and realigning Ware Road from Heath Mount School to the existing southern-most Stoneyhills junction, to help reduce delays from people turning right and to improve the visibility on the road.

Preliminary Works Reminder

To complete some ecological work, a daily off-peak road closure (9.30am to 4pm) of Sacombe Pound is in place until Saturday 13 June. The road will be closed when signs are in place.

COVID-19 Update

Hertfordshire County Council is working closely with Interserve Construction Ltd to follow government guidance on best work practices and social distancing. As part of the work to start on site the team has put in place a range of procedures to protect staff and the public, including:

  • Staggering working patterns
  • Only essential staff on site
  • Providing all necessary PPE and hand washing gels
  • Increased cleaning regimes and welfare provision
  • Eliminating the need for contact wherever possible
  • Enforcing social distancing

Some of the measures may mean that parts of the works will take longer to complete.
